Sigurt’s main research interests include company sustainability, worker participation, responsible investment practices, and the impact of alternative investment funds on companies. He coordinates the ETUI’s GoodCorp network of experts on European company law and corporate governance. Together with this group, he has developed a stakeholder-based alternative to the shareholder value model of corporate governance, which is entitled “The Sustainable Company.” In cooperation with the ETUI’s Research Department he has developed the European Participation Index (EPI), which measures the strength of workers’ voice in different European countries. He received an M.A. and Ph.D. in economic sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. from Haverford College. He has teaching experience at the Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and the New York University Semester Abroad Program.
